Hurley and a Pile of Fun
Most of you who have been following us for some time know who Hurley is. But for those that are new, Hurley is our Golden Retriever and one of the staff members of the plantation.
He holds the official title of “Plantation Dog”.
It has been some time seen we have posted information on Hurley so we thought it was about time again.
During Thanksgiving, Hurley served up some fun and lighten the mood after such a hard few weeks. He is such a wonderful dog and we just love him!
We hope when you visit us at the plantation, you will have a chance to meet him!
Such a beautiful sweet doggy!!
Thank you! We think so too!
Wonderful post. Looks like our family of dark goldens. How old is Hurley?
Hurley is eight and he is what they call “Cinnamon”. He has a lot of the Setter part in him. Thank you!
We have raised the reds for over 26 years. Used to be the darker coat was favored when the breed first started. A lot of the hunting/field side still trends dark. The show trends blonder. Right now we have a 14, 12, 6 and a visiting 4.
Wow! You have your hands full! We love the red. We didn’t really look at the color when we were picking him out. We found him at a pet store and our son fell in love with him. He has been the best dog, color or not.
Tim, my husband has some nice posts with our goldens. They are wonderful, especially with children. Your son made a good call, and Hurley is one lucky dog to have so much love!

Thank you! I look forward to reading it!
I remember Hurly, and I appreciate seeing new photos of him. He surely was having a wonderful time!!
Yes he was! He just loved it.
Looks like both or your guys had a lot of fun. I have fond memories of playing in piles of leaves when I was a little kid. We had a big beautiful tree in our yard which dropped tons of leaves.
It really was a lot of fun watching him. He thinks he is a three year old kid. Wait until he sees the leaves that we get at Belle Grove! He is going to be in heaven! What great memories you must have! Thank you!
Oh, Hurley–nothing like playing in those leaves. How did he get his name?
Thank you! He got his name from our son Tyler. Tyler is into surfing and named him after the surf board company Hurley. Of course now that Tyler is running around more, Hurley has become more of Brett’s dog. Right Hurley thinks he is just the youngest kid of ours. We haven’t told him yet that he isn’t human. π
Oh, I don’t think it would matter if he never found out. π My Schekie also thinks he’s human so he rarely barks.
Haha! Hurley too! He also watches tv!
I bet he’d like to sleep in the same bed, too! π Oh, aren’t they all terribly sweet. And they want nothing in return but your love and attention. π π π
So glad to see Hurly pictures! He is a beautiful Golden. Love from Melody, Rhythm, and me!
I knew you would enjoy seeing him again! I was thinking of you, Melody and Rhythm as I was writing it! π
What a beautiful dog!
Thank you! We think so too!
Hurley sure loves leaves! Thanks for sharing those great photos.
You are so welcome! Thank you for stopping by! Wait until he sees Belle Grove in the fall! He is going to be in heaven.
How far are you guys from DC? I have friends who live there and I want them to come visit you when you are open.
Belle Grove is about an hour outside of DC. We are 20 minutes from Fredericksburg.
Excellent! I will look forward to your “hard” opening and alert everyone. π
Thank you! We look forward to seeing everyone!
Hurley looks as if he’s having as much fun with a pile of leaves as my children used to have. These photos definitely bring a smile.
Thank you! It brought a much needed smile to us too!
Gorgeous dog. We’re planning a trip for next Oct and hopefully will be able to stop for a night on the way south π
Thank you! We hope that you will be able to stop by! We would love to have you!
What a great time he is having! Our leaves here on the west coast are almost always too wet to play in…
He did have a great time! Sorry to hear that! You might need to come head to Belle Grove next year for some fun with Hurley!
Save me a room! I want to come hang out with Hurley on the plantation. Thanks for stopping by my blog:)
You are so welcome! We hope to see more of your blog in the future! We have your room saved! Hurley said he would meet you at the door! π
Whatapup! π
Yes he sure is!
OHHH, how very DELIGHTFUL!!! I love to play in the leaves as well!! π
So does Hurley! We couldn’t get him out of it.
Love the shots of him buried in leaves. what fun he must have had!
Yes, he did have a lot of fun. We had a hard time getting him to come back in!
He’s the same colour as my one remaining dog, Flynn. It’s very rare in the UK. Here everyone prefers the white ones. Even in his old age F gets lots of attention. I’m having a bit of a doggy writing week this week. love your pics.
Thank you! We love his color. We have a next door neighbor who has a white one named London. We were joking with them when they first moved in with her. We told them that if we bred the two we would end up with pink puppies! π
I love these, started my day with a smile!
Oh wonderful! We love to start someone’s day with a smile!
Great pictures of Brett and Hurley having fun. And it looks as though they had a sizeable audience!
Yes they did! Thank you!
There are some classic shots here. I love the first one of Hurley jumping up for the leaves in the air and the one where he’s been. covered but his face is still showing. I have one from many years ago of Champ, my boxer mix, running through a pile of leaves. It is a glorious tie of year!
We really enjoyed seeing him act like a little kid. It brought smiles to a sad time in our family. I bet Champ loved them as much as Hurley did! Thank you for stopping by!
What is it about piles of leaves, mine go nuts for them. Unfortunately, the leaves here in NYC are piled in the gutters and it would be dangerous to stick your hands in but nonetheless Izzy and Nando seek out the piles of leaves. Hurley looks like he is having a wonderful time, so does everyone else. I love fall!
Well then you will have to come down some time and use our leaves! π
Ya gotta laugh, Hurley is like a child at play. Blessings ~ Maxi
Thank you Maxi! Yes he is just a little kid at heart!
Goldens…one of the Eternal Puppy breeds! My neighbor is part of a Golden rescue group. Her newest adoptee, Taylor, is a lover and a half and great moral support, as Grace had just finished Kemo when Taylor came into her life. Does Hurley like to be brushed?
Oh he loves to be brushed! When we take out the brush he runs to the couch and sits there waiting for us to come in with it. How wonderful! I love rescue groups!
You brought a tear to my eye and a thump to my heart. I had a dog that used to love to chase leaves, bubbles, and the spray from a super soaker. She was such a sweetie.
Thanks for stopping by and liking my recent post about my playful dog.
Juju
You are so welcome! We hope to see more of your blog in the future! Hurley loves the spray from the water hose and if you could see him with a balloon! He holds the tail of the balloon in his month and shakes his head back and forth. It is so much fun to watch! Thank you Juju for stopping by!
Owing a dog helps you really enjoy the outdoors and feel like a kid. Taking time to play and watching their joy, that’s a beautiful thing. Hurley looks like a dreamboat. Thank you for stopping by my Blog!
You are so welcome! We hope to see more of your blog in the future! Yes, it is such a joy to watch him. He is just one special dog!
Well this is the happiest thing I have seen in a long time! What a beautiful doggy. My heart is a puddle! x
Aw thank you! We hope you will stop by again and smile with us some more!
These a a fabulous series. So much fun!!
Thank you! We hope you will stop by often!
Hurley looks like he’s having a wonderful time. Aren’t dogs just the best? ! I truly don’t know what I’d do without my Sydney and Bear. I’m so glad you had Hurley to lighten your mood and make you smile!
I totally agree! Hurley is the best therapy. I don’t know what we would do without him some times! He is going to be my buddy this week since Brett is going to be gone.
Gorgeous…! Animals and children can bring out the best in us; to be sure..! π
Yes that one I completely agree with! Thank you!
Did someone hide his bone in those leaves? π
No, we hid a toy! You were the first to figure that one out!
π
Great photos, lol! Hurley looks like he is having a blast!
We cannot yet get Trixie to enjoy the whole “pile of leaves” thing.
Thanks for visiting my blog and for the likes.
I’m looking forward to following yours π
You are so welcome! We hope to see more of your blog in the future too! It didn’t take much to get him into the leaves. It was just hard to get him out! π
They do love to play don’t they.
Oh yes they do!
He’s such a handsome fellaβit is great to see him having such fun. I always mulch leaves for my garden beds, but maybe next year I’ll have to rake them into a pile to see if we can get Ben to play in it!
I bet Ben would have a blast! Yes he is a handsome fella. Thank you!
Hurley is just beautiful and those are the happiest, most delightful photographs. Thanks for sharing the fun.
You are so welcome! It was great fun for all! Thank you.
Hurley is quite the handsome boy! Hoping to see pictures of him playing in the snow soon.
Oh the snow! When we get it he is in heaven! Thank you!
I wonder if Hurley helped clean up the scattered leaves? π
Not really. He tends to spread them more than clean them up. π
Oh, we have a Golden. Gracie Allen. So much fun. She loves the leaves, too!
What a wonderful name! We just love Goldens! Thank you for stopping by!
Hurley is beautiful, and playful too! Thanks for the like!
You are so welcome! Thank you! we think so too!
Awwww! Now that is a happy dog!
Yes he was!
You started my day with a BIIIG smile. Gorgeous dog and beautiful photos! I have a 12 year old doxie, but she’s a bit of a diva and doesn’t “do” leaves, wet grass or snow – undercarriage too low. Isn’t it wonderful how dogs can live in the moment? Thank you for visiting my blog and liking it.
You are so welcome! We look forward to seeing more of your blog! I am so glad we were able to start your day off with a smile! Yes, Thank you for stopping by!
Golden Retreivers are among my favorites. I bet Hurley is indeed a wonderful dog. Thanks again for following my blog. Captain Rick

I will. I have been away from my computer for a couple of days. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Yes we love goldens too! Thank you for stopping by!
Hurley can put a smile on anyone’s face! We have a golden/chow mix … she getting older but still so lovable!
Thank you. Yes he has that affect on people π I bet she is a wonderful dog too!
Who had more fun? Hurley or Dad? So much fun!!! Robyn
I think it was a tie! Thank you!
Such great action shots
Thank you! Hurley is great for photo shoots!
Oh, sweet Hurley is having so much fun. What terrific pictures!!! Hugs and nose kisses
Hurley says thank you for the hugs and nose kisses!
Great pictures of Hurley! Looks like all of you were having a blast!
Thank you! Hurley says thank you too! He was having a ball!
Hey he’s great! I am applying for a canine partner and played with a similar dog a couple of weeks back. They kinda make you feel alive
This breed of dog is just so special. I think they were meant to be great companions. Thank you!
